the red tent (pt. 2)

wow. it's been a long time since I was on this thing... my xanga kicks my blog's butt. it's easier to customize, and I like to make my pages look pretty. It's probably my favorite thing about blogging (as nerdy as that sounds...)

anyway. christmas was wonderful. I got everything I ever wanted plus some... and I love seeing my grandparents and uncle. so that was cool too.

Today I've been reading The Red Tent! It's pretty good so far. Although my warning (for anybody also wanting to read it...) is that they talk about menstral blood/pregnancy a lot. But it was a much bigger deal back then, because of the honor associated with childbirth (also there's not a lot else for them to do!). I thought it was going to be all about old testament women in general, but it's actually only about Jacob's family (aka his 4 wives, their 12 sons and the daughter Dinah.)

oohhh and my grades were finally posted up online! yay! all A's except for 1 B+ and one regular B (which should have been a B-, so I'm happy. The pluses and the minuses affect your GPA at umkc. but of course they don't have an A+ (which totally penalizes smart kids, but don't even get me started on that. lol))

haha. got a little spooked...

Ok. So I decided to watch some more of my CSI dvds. My final this morning went well, and the final this afternoon should be fine. (I think I might even have over 100% in there, which is wonderful.) So after watching an episode where the guy lashes out violently at Grissom, I go back to studying for my easy final.... until it sounds like somebody is banging on our house. (at this point I realize that I'm a complete loser, because in my mind I can just see that creepy guy from the episode running in from a window, brutally killing me, and stealing my baby to give to his sister- all of this despite that I'm not pregnant, and the guy died during the episode.) So I call my mom, a little freaked out, and she tells me it might be roofers. Yup. Sure enough, a semi-obese man is lumbering around on my roof. I'm still a bit scared, but really just scared that our roof/ceiling might not hold all that weight. (Are they really built to withstand 300 pounds? Mostly just the rain hits it... although I guess snow can get kinda heavy...)

So I should just relax, and study some Women's Psych. And I'm only watching CSI when there's somebody else in the house (usually a good rule of thumb for me!)

An Educational Update. (aka my life for next semester)

I've almost got my schedule all ironed out for next semester. It's not leaving me any evenings free though, which sucks.... so my social life is going to be reduced to zero (or it might even slip into the negatives. lol) Anyway here are my classes (with stars showing how excited I am for each one...)

Biology (with a lab) * not too excited about this one... I heard it was sortof hard because it's a huge lecture, and last time I took a bio class was in 9th grade.
Lifetime Fitness *** I'm excited to have regularly scheduled workout time, but not excited about getting all sweaty and having to shower naked in a room full of other strangers.
Cultural Diversity in Education ** the subject seems like it's going to be either really good, or really bad. hopefully there's not too much reading....
Experimental Psych ***** Sounds awesome. The prof. came highly recommended, and the class is supposed to be a great topic. The only problem is that it's writing intensive (read: lots of papers).
Elementary Music Methods **** I like music. This one should be fun. also hopefully not much new material. I played the oboe, so I know how to read music and the importance of intonation (lol. out of tune oboes are the worst! when I was first learning my ($10) reed broke right before a concert, and they didn't let me play... that's how bad it sounds)
Geometry for Elementary Teachers ***** I love geometry (I know that makes me a nerd...) and learning how to teach little kids about shapes and angles sounds cute. Geometry and Stats are the only types of math that I actually understand. Plus my dad (the engineer) is always telling me to "think triangles!" whenever we would have to build things out of popsicle sticks, or spaghetti, or whatever. (I'm sure forrest knows all about the triangle thing...)

Anyway, sorry if that completely bored you, I'm sooooo excited to be done with this semester! only 2 more days of classes, and then all I have are my finals! yay!

oooohhh and I'm taking Economics, Geography and American History this summer. (I regret not paying for that history class when I took the AP class in high school.) oh well...
